Member education is central to the mission of the MSMA. Educational
opportunities are offered through a number of channels, as explained below, all
of which enhance the professional development of MSMA members. From
networking with colleagues at local chapter meetings to articles in the national
POSTSCRIPT newsletter, MSMA seeks to inform and communicate with its
members.
Local Chapter Activities
The activities of the 20 local MSMA chapters nationwide are a vital and
flourishing aspect of MSMA membership. Local chapter meetings offer members
a unique forum for networking and sharing information with managers operating
in their area.
Local chapter meetings also provide excellent learning opportunities, as
chapters feature presentations from members and outside speakers, vendor
tours, postal reviews, panel discussions and more. Issues key to the operations
of members, whether they be administrative, technological, or regulatory, are
addressed at local chapter meetings.
Local chapters also publish their own newsletters to address regional issues,
and report on and publicize chapter events.
Finally, local chapters provide an avenue for members to participate in the
development of their Association. By serving on committees or the board,
planning programs, or soliciting new members, members active in their local
MSMA chapters grow professionally and grow the profession.
MAILCOM Conference & Exhibition
The MSMA jointly sponsors with MAIL Magazine an independent national
conference twice a year entitled MAILCOM Conference & Exhibition. MAILCOM
has grown into the largest educational event for mail communications
management, attracting over 10,000 participants annually. Each year, MAILCOM
features well over 100 seminars, and vendors and service firms exhibiting the
latest in mail communication technology.
As sponsor of MAILCOM, MSMA members in good standing receive a special
discounted rate to attend MAILCOM, and a portion of the reduced fee is refunded
to the local chapter.
POSTSCRIPT
POSTSCRIPT is the newsletter published four times annually by the national
Association. POSTSCRIPT accepts articles by members and outside experts on
national issues and trends related to the association and the industry.
POSTSCRIPT also includes association news, MTAC reports, national board
meeting notes, and chapter updates.
Learning Tools
MSMA disseminates to its members a wide variety of education material,
including books such as the guide to Professional Mail Management and
Excellence in Mail Management, video and audio tapes of MAILCOM sessions,
MTAC materials, and management and training tapes. This material is often
provided at little or no cost to the member or chapter.
